Gross P&L, net P&L and transaction costs

Every trade in TradeBB has two results: gross P&L, what the price move made, and net P&L, what you kept after costs. Reports use net P&L, so your results match what reached your account.

On each trade

Net P&L = Gross P&L − Transaction Costs + Swap
  • Gross P&L — the result from your entry and exit prices, at full contract size
  • Transaction Costs — commissions and fees on every order, entry and exit
  • Swap — overnight interest on positions held past the broker's daily cutoff. It's usually a cost, so it's shown as a negative number, but it can be positive

Example (sample trade): a GBP/USD position made $23.40 from the price move, paid $1.95 in commission and $30.00 in swap over 18 days. Net P&L: 23.40 − 1.95 − 30.00 = −$8.55. The price move won; the account lost.

You'll find all four on the trade's detail page, and per order in its Executions table.

In your reports

Reports → Overview → Costs & Fees adds up the costs across the trades you've selected:

  • Total Commission
  • Total Fees
  • Total Swap
  • Total Transaction Costs — the three combined

Everywhere else, from the dashboard to the calendar and every report, results are net.

Why my P&L doesn't match my broker

  • Costs are missing — some broker files don't include commissions. See How to Manually Add Commissions, Fees, and Taxes
  • Different date range or account — check the date range and account selected at the top
  • Open trades — trades still open have no net P&L yet
