TradeBB connects to your broker's MT5 server with a read-only login. You need three things: your account number, your server name and a read-only (investor) password. These steps work the same for MetaTrader 4.
Before you start: find your login details
Account number and server name
- In MT5, they're shown at the bottom of the terminal window and under File → Login to Trade Account. A server name looks like
XMGlobal-MT5 2orExness-MT5Real12 - Your broker also lists them in the welcome email and in its client area
Read-only (investor) password
- Many brokers send it in the welcome email, or in MT5's Mailbox tab
- Some brokers ask you to create it yourself. On Exness, for example, open the account in your Personal Area, then ⋮ → Set read-only access
- If you can't find one, your trading (master) password also connects, but read-only is all TradeBB needs
Connect your account
- In TradeBB, open Import Trades → Add broker account
- Search for your broker, or for your server name
- Pick the entry that matches the server shown in MT5, for example
MetaTrader 5 · XMGlobal - Enter your account number and read-only password
- Choose your time zone and how far back to import, up to the last 12 months
- Click Connect & Sync Trades
Your trades start coming in. The account's Last Update time shows when it last synced.
After you connect
- It syncs on its own — and you can sync by hand any time, for example right before a review. Each sync brings in every trade since the last one
- MT5 can stay closed — the connection is to your broker's server, not your computer
- Nothing to install — no Expert Advisor or script
- Several accounts — repeat these steps for each one; each becomes its own account in TradeBB
Prefer to upload a report?
- In MT5, open the Toolbox and click the History tab
- Set the date range
- Right-click the list and choose Report → HTML
- In TradeBB, open Import Trades → Upload file and drop in the file MT5 saved (named
ReportHistory-<account>.html)
Upload the HTML file itself, not a screenshot. A Strategy Tester report (ReportTester-<account>.html) uploads the same way; put it in its own account so backtests don't mix with live trades.
Troubleshooting
I can't find my broker.
Search for the server name instead of the broker's name. TradeBB connects by server, so most MT5 brokers can be found that way.
It says my password is wrong.
Check you're using the password for this account number, not your broker's website login. Investor passwords are case-sensitive.
Some older trades are missing.
Check the date range you chose: the first sync goes back up to 12 months. Some brokers also archive older orders on their servers, after which they no longer appear in MT5's history either.
My trade times look shifted.
MT5 shows your broker's server time. Set your own time zone in Preference → Time Zone and every report uses it.
Is the MT5 "Journal" tab my trade history?
No. The Journal tab is the terminal's log of connections and messages. Your trades are in the History tab.
